SCHEDULE OF TRAINING FOR 2013

Certificate Course in Narrative Practice

The one year Certificate Course will not be offered in 2013. The faculty are currently engaged in an ongoing major review and restructure of this course. It is envisaged that the course will be offered again in 2014 in a new and exciting format, which will enable narrative practitioners to further develop and extend their skills and understanding .

We understand that the absence of the Certificate Course may disappoint some people who are looking for an opportunity to engage with narrative practice on an ongoing basis throughout the year. To address this issue we are offering a number of new workshops during 2013 aimed specifically at filling this need. We encourage anyone who was considering the Ongoing Course to look closely at our other workshops with the view to participating in a number of them throughout the year. They have been designed to cover much of the same territory which would be covered in the Certificate Course.

This 5 day workshop is geared for those who wish to review and extend their skills in using narrative approaches in their work. It is not an introductory workshop and a working knowledge of the key components of narrative therapy will be assumed.
We will work together through live interviews, review of transcripts and practical exercises to closely look at the conversational pathways of our work. There will be a focus on expanding the opportunities for people who consult us to reach for what is possible for them to know.
A broad spectrum of narrative ways of working will be explored including the work of Turner and Van Gennep, Migration of Identity, the Absent but implicit, scaffolding conversations, and work to build teams of solidarity and connection.

SPECIFIC INTEREST WORKSHOPS

Supporting Students in Schools: Narrative Responses to Some Common Dilemmas

When problems gain traction in young people's lives they often cast a bleak shadow over their connection with school and learning.
This two day workshop is an opportunity to reinvigorate the role we play in supporting students to maintain hope in the face of worrisome problems.
This workshop will be suitable for anyone who has a role in student well-being, working from either inside or outside of schools. This includes counsellors and psychologists, SSO’s, attendance officers, youth workers, special education teachers and pastoral care coordinators.
We are interested to look at ways in which a Narrative Approach can respond to the popular ideas of resilience and Positive Education and in this workshop will bring a focus on skill development in practices that we believe can translate these ideas into action.

April 22 & 23 with Maggie Carey and Lisa Johnson.
